This documentation is going to go through steps that should be followed to properly troubleshoot VIN and COUPON scanners.

A few initial steps:

ENSURE CAPS LOCK IS OFF - This CAPs lock key on the keyboard is on the left side of the keyboard. CAPS lock causes changes in the case of what is being scanned.

DISCONNECT FROM POWER - Completely disconnect the scanner from its power source.
> If it is directly wired to a computer, disconnect the USB cable.
> If there is a scanner base, disconnect the base from power.
After 5-10 seconds, reconnect the scanner or the scanner base to power.

MOVE PORTS - The scanner/base USB input can be moved between ports for testing.

Test Scan in Notepad:

  1. Navigate to the Windows Start Menu:
    Windows 11 Start Icon: Located in either the bottom center or bottom right of the screen

    Windows 10 Start Icon: Typically located in the lower left corner

  2. Search for ‘Notepad'

  3. Open Notepad and test scanning a barcode.

    1. The scanning result should be <coupon> (coupon = the name of the official coupon)
