FAQ: Set Power Options and Disable Power Management
To prevent the computer and USB powered devices from “going to sleep,” changes to Windows Power Options and Power Management are necessary.
Click on ‘Start’ or Windows icon in taskbar
Type power in search box
Select' Power & Sleep Settings' from search results
Screen:
On battery power, turn off after: Select ‘Never’ from drop-down menu
When plugged in, turn off after: Select ‘Never’ from drop-down menu
Sleep:
On battery power, turn off after: Select ‘Never’ from drop-down menu
When plugged in, turn off after: Select ‘Never’ from drop-down menu
Select the ‘Additional Power Settings’ link
Click on the ‘Change Plan Settings’ link
Select on the ‘Change Advanced Power Settings’ link
Click “+” to expand Hard disk options
Click “+” to expand Turn off hard disk after options
On battery: Select Never or 0 minutes
Plugged in: Select Never or 0 minutes
Click “+” to expand Sleep options
Click on + to expand Sleep after options
On battery: Select Never or 0 minutes
Plugged in: Select Never or 0 minutes
Click on + to expand Allow hybrid sleep options
On battery: Select Never or 0 minutes
Plugged in: Select Never or 0 minutes
Click on + to expand Hibernate after options
On battery: Select Never or 0 minutes
Plugged in: Select Never or 0 minutes
Click on + to expand USB settings
Click on + to expand USB selective suspend setting
On battery: Select Disabled from drop-down menu
Plugged in: Select Disabled from drop-down menu
Select ‘Apply’
Select 'OK'
Close ‘Power & Sleep Settings’ window
Click on ‘Start’ or Windows icon in taskbar
Type ‘Device’ in search box
Select ‘Device Manager’ from search results
Click “>” to expand Universal Serial Bus controllers
Right-click on item
Select ‘Properties'
Select ‘Power Management’ tab
De-select ‘Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power’
Select ‘OK’
Repeat steps for all USB controllers
